Calling all lovers of jazz for this free performance and presentation offered to the general public by jazz great Paul Klemperor at the DubHub from 7 - 9 pm. When musicians say "jazz is a language," they mean that jazz improvisation is a structured form of communication. Rather than speaking with words, players use a shared musical vocabulary to converse, tell stories, and express complex emotions in real time. Jazz solos are rarely planned note-for-note. Musicians listen to each other, respond to ideas (a process known as call-and-response), and build off one another’s energy. This will be a presentation with played examples. Paul will have some core musicians to help him, and folks can also bring instruments to try out tunes along with them. Or just come to listen and enjoy!
